Frederick II Crowned Himself King of Jerusalem

Frederick II negotiated Jerusalem back from the Sultan of Egypt in 1229 through diplomacy alone—then walked into the Church of the Holy Sepulchre and crowned himself, because every bishop in the city had refused to show up.
